The last two Saturday’s have made this year, 2010, one of the best in my entire life. Let’s review:

On the first Saturday, April 17th, my robotics team, Team 341 Miss Daisy, was bestowed the honor of the Championship Chairman’s Award. This award is a mark of distinction among all FIRST competitors that our team is now one of the best team’s in the organization. We are now a role model for other teams to emulate and have the great honor and opportunity to help even more teams than we already have. It has to be up there in the top 10 moments of my life since I’ve been working towards that moment for 11 years.

As if that weren’t enough, on Saturday April 24th, my amazing boyfriend of three years proposed to me on our 3-year anniversary getaway to Watkins Glen, NY. It was so magical and special and I can’t think of a more amazing fiance. I’m a little bit apprehensive about this whole planning a wedding thing but am so excited at the same time!

What? That’s not enough for you? Stay tuned!

The old server that everyone who’s ever been in my major used to use at my college is having its very own funeral. It doesn’t get much better than this:

The Mac server “Chupacabra” died peacefully on October 14, 2009 in an ITS life support facility. Although “Chupa” (as it was affectionately called) was a computer, it was nonetheless very close to our hearts in the DMA Program, and will be buried respectfully on the grounds of Lyons Hall on November 3, 2009. A funeral procession will begin at 4:30PM from Room 118 in Lyons Hall, where a reception will follow. All are welcome to attend.

Mr. Jamie O’Neil
Assistant Professor, Digital Media Arts
Communications Studies Department
Canisius College
Buffalo, NY

This is something that I would actually come back to school for but, of course, its on a day that is not suitable for people who live outside of the 2 mile expanse of Buffalo. *sigh*

I’m also fairly certain that I am the one that coined the term “Chupa.” Just sayin’.

So I just signed up for An Event Apart San Francisco in December and I am so excited! Ever since my internship during college I have wanted to go to one of these events. My mentor at my internship told me about all of these great companies in the web industry that I should familiarize myself with. Back then of course I was a complete newbie but I tucked away those links in my head to idolize and bring out another day.

Well now that I actually work in the web industry I get to go to one of these events and I am ecstatic! An Event Apart has no seminars to pick – its just two days of straight classes that are relevant to me and no moving around. I sure hope its as great as I’ve built it up to be!

My significant other just got his first full-time job out of college and I am soooo excited. It only took about… 4 months? Man these economic times are dismal but all I can say is that I am so thankful for my job, and now, my boyfriend’s job. Best of luck to those of you who are still out there struggling with part time work, temp work, bosses who think they can jerk you around or not pay you, and scouring Craigslist every evening of your life. We hear you.

If there’s one bit of advice I can pass your way: get a recruiter in your corner that loves you. I got my job through CM Access (I actually interviewed for two jobs at the same time in November of 2007) and my boyfriend has now landed his job only because a recruiter hounded him to go to the interview. What have we learned? Recruiters land you solid jobs.
